Here is an uncomfortable truth about learning: forgetting is not a failure. It is what brains do. The brain is ruthless about deleting anything it does not use again — which is why a child can understand a topic perfectly in June and be unable to recognise it in September. Nothing went wrong. The brain was simply never asked to keep it.
